Kerry Frampton - Splendid Productions
I wanted to work for myself. I was after flexibility and control over my work. I knew there was a gap in the market for the kind of workshops I wanted to offer - Devising and Performance Skills workshops - so I just needed a way to get in. The only problem was I had no idea what to do, and what would be involved in setting it up.
Then I saw an advert in a local magazine. It said, 'Are you a creative person? Would you like to set up your own creative business? Would you like to know where to start?' and I thought, 'Yes, yes and yes again', and immediately applied for the course. It was one of the best moves I made.
I was a member of Head for Business's very first intake in 2003 and the course was fantastic as it gave a really solid structure to something that was essentially structure-less. Splendid Productions set up trading in September of that year. The support network from Head for Business was invaluable."
Splendid Productions provides workshops and performances (in-house) to schools and colleges and in the last year 2004, Splendid have worked with 190 different schools in 39 counties across the UK.
I now have three other workshop leaders/performers working with Splendid Productions, and our good name is now spreading.
I think the most important lesson that Head for Business taught me was that it was possible to be a creative person and run a business.
