Alestir Waller - Media for All
After fifteen years as a social worker, Alestir Waller decided it was time to develop some of her other interests. With a degree in broadcasting, she moved into the world of commercial television where she decided to set up a social enterprise media training company.
 Alestir takes up the story: "It was OK for a while, but I felt we weren't reaching the people we should be reaching - the young people. I knew we needed to refocus, but I didn't know how.
Then I saw an advert for Head for Business and got squeezed in on the last appointment of the day and I got the last place on the course.
Suddenly, I had an instant network - there was somebody who could answer every question I had, or put me on to someone who could. I learned so much, especially about forming a charity and raising funds, not just through the course, but from people I heard about because I was doing the course.
Head for Business has made itself so central to everything else that's going on; to all the other support there is out there!"
Alestir has now been given premises to work from and professional broadcasting equipment so she can deliver high quality training.
Media for All (with a logo designed by another Head for Business trainee) is currently delivering journalist and media master classes with a number of organisations including The Creative Collective and the BBC as well as providing a series of engaging classes and workshops and marketing CDs to Choice FM by the young participants.
