Pre-enterprise training: Is E for Me?
"Is Enterprise for Me?" combines market research and goal setting with assertiveness training and household budgeting. The client-centred curriculum recognises no business starts in a vacuum. Time management is as essential for success as market research. The training is rigorous and practical but is delivered in an atmosphere of support, encouraging personal growth. The skills taught are easily transferable and give clients more rather than fewer options when they finish the course.
The course is accredited by the Open College Network and is 18 hours plus homework. It works as 3 sessions over 6 weeks and as an intensive course that finishes in a week. It is completely flexible.
Topics include:
- Introduction and Goals
Clients describe their business idea.
What have they done so far?
- Rules and Regulations
What do clients need to start their businesses? Training, qualifications, planning permission.
- Goalsetting
Emphasis is setting and on attaining practical goals within a specific time period.
- Assertiveness and Confidence
Clients identify their strengths and learn to emphasise them. They are also taught techniques in assertive communication.
- Market Research
Clients are helped to figure out whom their customers are.
An overview of information sources and research techniques. Participants identify their unique selling points and the benefits they can offer their customers. They begin to identify their competitors.
- Household Budget
Clients figure out how much they need to get by, so they understand how much time and money they can afford to spend on their businesses.
- Benefits Awareness
Which benefits can clients expect while they are setting up their businesses?
- Customer Care
Retention of customers and development of policies for dealing with complaints.
- Presentation skills
Clients each give a presentation on their businesses.
